Institutional safeguards

Mystery must never conceal authority.

Rules, money, leadership, rights, risk, and routes for complaint must be clearer—not less clear—where symbolism, privacy, and commitment carry emotional weight.

These commitments state the standard by which every office, process, practice, and exercise of authority must be judged.

01

Authority is borrowed

Office is a temporary trust with a stated source, purpose, scope, and duration. Scholarship, charisma, wealth, initiation, donation, title, or tenure creates no independent authority.

02

Governance is legible

Rules, rights, charges, complaint routes, material decisions, and meaningful financial information must be available in ordinary language.

03

Leaders rotate

Governance uses elected, staggered terms, term limits, recorded decisions, conflict rules, and independent review. No individual holds a permanent seat or personal veto.

04

Disagreement remains free

No metaphysical view is required. Good-faith criticism, doubt, refusal, reporting, and organised reform may not be punished as disloyalty.

05

Outside life remains yours

No one may isolate a participant from family, friends, advisers, communities, health care, law, or outside sources of support.

06

Leaving is immediate

Resignation requires no permission, explanation, payment, ceremony, apology, silence, or completion of an internal process.

07

Privacy protects people

Personal information and legitimate experience may be held in confidence. Privacy may never conceal authority, charges, risk, abuse, wrongdoing, or member rights.

08

Fair process applies

Adverse decisions require notice, reasons, an impartial process, proportionate outcomes, and meaningful appeal. Rank and reputation provide no immunity.

Prohibited control

No office, mentor, teacher, ritual leader, or member may claim a person’s conscience.

No demanded personal or spiritual obedience.

No threat of supernatural punishment.

No pressure to abandon family, friends, advisers, communities, or outside help.

No forced confession, public humiliation, social isolation, or unrelated disclosure.

No manipulation of sleep, food, intoxication, fear, exhaustion, or dependency.

No sexual or romantic access exchanged for admission, evaluation, office, or favour.

No surrender of passwords, documents, communications, property, or lawful personal decisions.

No retaliation for reporting, refusal, criticism, resignation, or association.

Governance

Plural authority, limited terms, independent review.

Governance rests on equal voting rights for full members, limited and rotating office, recorded decisions, conflict rules, and review independent from ordinary administration. No individual, donor, employee, chapter, or ritual office may claim a reserved seat or personal veto.

Material decisions must record authority, conflicts, recusals, votes, outcomes, and reasons. Investigation, first decision, and appeal must remain separated so no office or body judges its own conduct without independent review.

Discipline and appeal

Fairness does not yield to reputation.

The disciplinary model separates investigation, first decision, and appeal; requires written allegations, relevant evidence, a chance to respond, an impartial panel, reasons, proportionate outcomes, and a meaningful appeal. Office, donation, rank, or embarrassment gives no immunity.

Leaving

Departure requires no permission.

A member may resign immediately by clear notice—without approval, explanation, payment, ceremony, apology, completed discipline, or a promise of silence. A former member may describe their own experience and seek outside help while respecting the privacy of others.
